Mopar sample Tune Report

Mopar 5.7 sample: 2009 Ram 1500, file and log

A real report format, built from a Mopar 5.7 test order. This is a Mopar example, not a Ford or Honda sample. The file and the log are both test data.

Mopar 5.7 NGC4 Test order No customer data

Your goal

A clean cruise, better takeoff and a firm but not harsh shift.

The report starts with what you asked about. The file and the log are read before any paid change.

The short answer

The file and the log are read. The findings below are the next step. This is one test order, so it does not claim a close match to another build. A thin comparison set means no close match for this file, not that the library is empty. The report describes this file and this log and does not rank the truck against other builds.

Findings

What the file and the log show, in the order we would check it.

Watch

Log export not confirmed

What the data shows. This CSV does not confirm the scanner export settings. If Interpolate Data Gaps was on, filled-in readings look real and the durations are unknown.

What we would do. Upload the .hpl next time and export it with Interpolate Data Gaps off.

Watch

Torque management, not knock

What the data shows. The pedal asked for at least 50% while actual throttle was 15 points or more lower for 1.0 s. Knock stayed quiet.

What we would do. Check the torque request and the torque model before adding spark. Adding timing will not fix a blade that is closing.

Watch

Cam angle separated in the log

What the data shows. Commanded and actual cam angle separated by more than 5 degrees for 2.0 s. The worst gap was 8.0 degrees. This read has no cam-angle table, so the file request was not read.

What we would do. Check oil pressure and the phaser before changing any desired angle.

OK

FAR, lambda and AFR

What the data shows. The calibration stores FAR. The median was 0.0680 FAR, about lambda 1.00 and 14.7:1 on a gasoline scale.

What we would do. Keep the raw FAR beside the conversion. Judge full-throttle fuel only with a wideband in the same log.

OK

MDS state

What the data shows. MDS was in four-cylinder mode for about 20% of the run, with 8 transitions. Cylinders 1, 4, 6 and 7 are the ones that shut off.

What we would do. Leave it on unless you asked for it off or the engine has a non-MDS cam.

What we checked

Coverage: file and log
AreaStatusWhat the file and log show
Engine and airflowChecked (file)72 tables read. The ANN/VE path is present.
Fuel, FAR and injectorsChecked (file)5 FA/PE tables and 4 injector tables read.
Spark and knockChecked (file)Main spark and knock rows are in the checklist.
MDS and VVTChecked (file and log)MDS is present. VVT was not in this read; the log shows separation.
TransmissionChecked (file and log)545RFE. Two upshifts recorded. TCC slip peaked at 220 rpm.
Log channelsChecked (log)The channel set is under Logging steps.

Logging steps

  1. Add the core channels. Start with RPM, MAP, pedal, throttle, coolant, intake air, spark and knock. Then add trims, commanded fuel, injector pulse width, MDS state, requested torque, gear, output speed, TCC slip and vehicle speed.
  2. Add the rest when the computer shows them. Commanded throttle, bank 2 trims, upstream O2, battery voltage, desired and actual cam angle, estimated torque, torque reduction, input shaft speed and line pressure.
  3. Drive a repeatable route. Start before the engine is warm. Include 2 to 3 minutes of idle. Add light and medium takeoffs and a steady 45 to 65 mph cruise. Include 3 to 4 upshifts, one gentle kickdown and a coast to a stop.
  4. Keep the log unedited. Turn Interpolate Data Gaps off. A wideband is optional; without it, the report says full-throttle mixture was not measured.
