Mopar data logging
Published
A log is the only proof of what the engine did with the file. Build the channel list around the complaint, not around every PID the scanner offers.
Full Custom: $249 $199 launch special. Most files in 24–48 hours after the complete read and log arrive; the outside limit is 3 business days.
2005–2014 5.7, 6.1 and 6.4 only. A 2015+ truck or an 8HP is not covered yet. How files are handled.
Channels to record
| Channel | Why it is in the log |
|---|---|
| Engine rpm, vehicle speed, gear | Places every event. A shift complaint needs the gear, not just rpm. |
| Pedal and commanded / actual throttle | What you asked for versus what the blade did. These are separate channels. |
| MAP and barometric pressure | Load and the pressure ratio. KOEO MAP should match local barometric pressure. |
| Short and long trims, both banks | Closed-loop correction. A split bank points at that bank first. |
| Commanded fuel and wideband lambda | Command is not a measurement. Keep the raw fuel-to-air number beside lambda and AFR. |
| Spark and knock retard | Requested timing, final timing and what the knock system pulled. |
| Coolant, intake air, battery voltage | Thermal state and a low-voltage check before a write. |
| Desired and actual cam angle | Only on VVT engines. A stock cam on a stock file should track. |
| Cylinder mode | Separates four- and eight-cylinder data. The ECO lamp is not a channel. |
| Injector pulse width, fuel pressure if sensed | Duty and delivery. A calculated pressure is not a measured pressure. |
| Input speed, output speed, TCC state / slip | Gear ratio, converter slip and the shift event are three different things. |
| Transmission temperature, line pressure if logged | Heat changes behavior. If pressure is not available, record the gap. |
A narrowband cannot measure full-throttle mixture. If the log has no wideband, the report says full-throttle mixture was not measured. We do not move power enrichment on a narrowband.
What makes a log usable
- A fully warm idle, in Park or Neutral and in Drive with the brake on. Label the A/C segments.
- A steady cruise that holds the condition you care about: MDS on, MDS off, converter locked, a specific gear.
- The complaint, reproduced legally and safely. We do not ask for a street full-throttle pull.
- One change at a time, then the same drive again. A log with three changes in it cannot tell you which one worked.
Three findings we see
- The pedal is down, the throttle is closing, and there is no knock. That is torque management, not a spark problem. The fix is in driver demand and the torque limits, not a global spark add.
- Knock retard on a four-cylinder handover. Tag the transition. Do not use it as a reason to add spark. That check belongs with MDS and VVT.
- One bank's trims split. Check that bank's intake, exhaust, injector and oxygen sensor before you bend the airflow model for both banks.
